Abstract: The article examines the features of the development of dairy cattle breeding in the Kemerovo region in terms of changes in the average annual number of cows, milk production and productivity levels. Almost every one of the considered indicators for 2018-2022 decreased, except for milk yields in agricultural organizations. The concentration of dairy cattle indicates the dairy and meat orientation of cattle breeding in the region. Based on a comparison of production and consumption of milk and dairy products, it was revealed that the level of self-sufficiency in the reporting year decreased to 51.7%. As a result, the need for intensive development of the industry with the participation of the state has been determined. In modern conditions, it is possible to achieve an increase in efficiency to a greater extent by improving the quality characteristics of the dairy herd, which in turn is influenced not only by breeding, but, also by feeding and conditions for keeping cows.
