Abstract: The article presents the results of a comprehensive analysis of the current state of sunflower seed production in the Russian Federation. Based on official statistics for the period 2016–2025, the main trends in the dynamics of sown areas and gross harvests are identified, and structural shifts in the distribution of production across federal districts are investigated. Particular attention is paid to the economic factors of the industry's development: crop profitability, pricing conditions, processing capacity development, and export potential. Problematic aspects (natural and climatic risks, declining oil content in southern regions, import dependence in breeding, price disparity) are identified, and priority areas for development are substantiated: diversification of crop placement, technological modernization, development of logistics infrastructure in the eastern regions, and improvement of government support measures. The research results can be used in the development of strategic documents for the development of the oil and fat subcomplex of the Russian agro-industrial complex.
