Abstract: The achievement of food security of the state, its self-sufficiency based on the full satisfaction of the population's food needs and the creation of conditions for the sustainable development of the Russian agro-industrial complex depends on the economic efficiency of agricultural production in the subjects of the Russian Federation, individual regions and agricultural enterprises. The purpose of the study is to compare and analyze the effectiveness of agricultural production in different regions of the country in order to optimize management decisions. Because of the research, authors have proposed a methodology for comparing the economic efficiency of agricultural production. This methodology is based on analyzing an integral indicator: the gross value added of agriculture in a region per capita of the rural population. In the comparative assessment, one of the multi–criteria optimization method - the method of Borda counts was used. This paper provides an example of the proposed methodology using and analyzing the effectiveness of agricultural production based on the FSSS (Rosstat) data on gross value added and rural population in the subjects of the Volga Federal District over the period from 2020 to 2024.
