Abstract: The objective of this study is to examine the renewal of fixed assets in agricultural organizations specializing in dairy farming using the example of a specific agricultural region (Saratov Oblast) and to assess their impact on the subsector's economy. This article proposes criteria for assessing the performance of milk producers, using a number of indicators (average enterprise values of capital-labour ratios and labour productivity of dairy workers, productivity of dairy cows, and asset fitness ratios) to identify automated farms in the region and substantiate their high performance. The technical condition and use of individual types of assets in the observed organizations of the region were assessed using a set of recommended indicators (depreciation, input, and serviceability coefficients of assets, increases in asset intensity considered over two study periods, and the average value of the effective asset life indicator). The need for a complete renewal of machinery and equipment in one group of the analysed enterprises and their partial modernization in another was identified. A significant decrease in the most important performance indicators of the sub-sector was discovered in organizations with the highest asset depreciation. It was established that productive cattle in the studied farms of the region are intensively renewed, but their useful life is violated. Interpretation of the obtained results allowed us to identify the priorities for asset renewal in dairy farming: automation of production processes; timely and priority modernization of assets; adherence to their effective life; increasing the productivity of livestock workers; improving the material and technical base of the regions; development of selection for the duration of economic use of dairy cows.
