Abstract: The purpose of the study is to reveal the dual nature of biotechnologies from the perspective of ensuring the sustainability of agriculture. The methodological basis of the research was analysis, synthesis, expert assessment, observation, modeling, and logical methods. Main research results: presentation of actual and forecast data on the application of biotechnologies in global and national agriculture; identification of strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of agricultural biotechnologies; a proposal for measures to minimize/eliminate the negative consequences of the manifestation of weaknesses and threats of agricultural biotechnologies. The theoretical significance of the research lies in the development of the scientific foundations of agricultural biotechnologies, and the practical significance is related to the possibility of using the results obtained in the development and implementation of state policy aimed at the biotechnological development of domestic agriculture.
