Abstract: The following issues are considered: the consequences of the Chernobyl accident for agricultural lands and forests; the main results of the implementation of targeted programs to overcome the consequences of the accident and environmental rehabilitation of territories exposed to radioactive contamination, rehabilitation of agricultural and forest lands; measures to reduce radiation doses to the population; features of the radiation monitoring system. Despite the successes, there are territories with high levels of radioactive contamination, which continue to negatively affect the radiation situation in general, while restrictions remain on radiological criteria for farming and it has not been possible to fully solve the problem of establishing regimes for the use of agricultural land and forestry in these territories. Therefore, the ways of creating conditions for the transition from post-accident measures to the revival of the economic potential of the affected regions are substantiated, principles, criteria and directions for further rehabilitation of radioactively contaminated territories are given.
