Abstract: The article presents three classifications of the regions of the Russian Federation. The purpose of this work is to group the regions of the Russian Federation according to the economic potential of agriculture in 2023. For 85 regions of the Russian Federation, the share of agricultural products in the GDP of the Russian Federation was calculated and the initial data on the acreage of all crops were compiled based on Rosstat data for 2023. According to the share of agricultural products in the GDP of the Russian Federation, regions are divided into 7 types: non-agrarian, low-potential, low-productive, medium-potential, medium-productive, high-potential, highly productive. According to the sown area of all agricultural crops, the regions are classified into 7 groups. A two-dimensional classification of regions based on two indicators has been carried out. The scientific novelty lies in the two-dimensional classification of regions, which made it possible to identify the leading regions and outsider regions in terms of the economic potential of agriculture in 2023.
