Abstract: This paper examines the role of small-scale farming in rural development. Sustainable rural development is impossible without state support for small-scale farming, particularly in the transition to organic farming. Support for small-scale farming contributes to the preservation of rural areas and local populations, addresses important social challenges facing rural areas, and enhances social stability. A huge contribution of small forms of management is noted in the education of rural youth, the preservation of folk traditions, as well as the transfer of best practices. The authors identified the dynamics of small business development in the Novosibirsk Region and the sale of key agricultural products. They examined the challenges of small businesses and outlined areas for developing small businesses to ensure sustainable rural development.
