Abstract: The article considers the impact of factors on the population, since this indicator is the target in the Strategy for Sustainable Development of Rural Areas of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030. As independent variables, institutional indicators were chosen that characterize the number of rural settlements, agricultural organizations, the number of support settlements, as well as a group of indicators characterizing agricultural production - agricultural products, balanced financial result, the number of people employed in agriculture. The use of correlation and regression analysis made it possible to obtain a significant equation. It was concluded that in order to increase the rural population, it is necessary to develop agricultural production in rural areas
