Abstract: The study was conducted in the framework of one of the relevant areas – the economy of tourism in rural areas. The diversification of agriculture in Russia and the world contributes to the development of new forms and areas of economic activity, one of which is rural tourism. The purpose of the work was to assess the regional development of rural (agrarian) tourism using the example of the Irkutsk region. It is determined that in the Irkutsk region, rural (agrarian) tourism currently manifests itself as an auxiliary tool for the main activity of agricultural producers, helping to promote products and services. Weak cooperation between participants of the rural tourism market has been revealed. As a practical recommendation, the paper proposes the creation of a tourist information center with coordinating and informational functions, contributing to the development of the institutional environment of rural areas and access to social benefits for the population. In accordance with the results obtained, it can be concluded that the implementation of agricultural (agrarian) tourism practices in the face of agricultural producers in the Irkutsk region is in its infancy, creating the basis for the formation of agrotechnologies of the eco-system of rural space, which is expressed in new approaches to agriculture, where the emphasis is not only agricultural products, but also well-being. people and the environment. The main thesis is that the Russian economy is currently going through a stage when the initiative of local communities in the field of rural tourism is supported by a system of state regulation, forming the basis for competitive relations. A legal, regulated rural tourism market with regional features is being formed in Russia.
