Abstract: The development of agriculture is an important factor in maintaining internal socio-economic balance in society, a necessary condition for maintaining and strengthening the country's national interests in international trade, economic and political relations. The special role of agriculture is determined by the socio-economic significance of its products in food supply and import substitution, the high multiplier effect among the branches of the agro-industrial complex, its integration into world agriculture and the global agri-food market, and the multifunctionality of participation in the development of rural areas. The positive results of the agro ¬ industrial complex in general and agriculture in particular do not fully correspond to the presence and rational use of the country's huge agricultural potential. The state should treat the development of agriculture and rural areas in a special way, proceeding not only from their strategic importance for the country, reliable provision of its national and food security, raising the living standards of primarily rural residents, but also taking into account the specifics of the industry and its state support.
