Abstract: Now there are processes of globalization and urbanization, so it is necessary to understand the mechanisms of settlement, which are key to the formation of an effective state policy aimed at reducing migration flows to cities and supporting the viability of rural settlements. The purpose of the work: study of settlement in rural areas in the context of agricultural zoning, taking into account the agricultural framework of the region. Object of the study: rural population of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The work presents an analysis of the dynamics of the rural population, as well as a comprehensive classification of settlements by number and by territorial feature, which are based on belonging to agricultural zones. And by the level of agricultural development, which is determined in accordance with the criteria of the agricultural framework. An important stage of the study was the comparison of these groupings. This allowed us to identify the relationships and features of settlement in the context of the agrarian potential of the regions. A relatively uniform distribution by types of territories and districts was found. A compression of the developed space in the country was also found, it is visible with less intensity in the republic. The structure of settlements shows the predominance of groups with a population of 101-200 people, the largest share of the rural population is concentrated in settlements with medium and high density, in which the number of residents exceeds 201 people.
