Abstract: Social infrastructure, along with economic factors of rural development, determines the level of satisfaction of rural residents, provides a sufficient level of comfort and helps to stabilize the number of rural residents. It was established that the share of rural residents of the Leningrad Region in 2023 was 30.2%, which is 5.4 percentage points more than the Russian average. Despite this, the region has a negative trend of decreasing absolute number of rural residents, their educational share in the total population of the region and the number of rural settlements. Analysis of the dynamics of the number of social infrastructure facilities in the Leningrad Region for 2014-2023 showed an increase in the number of medical and preventive institutions by 1.9 times; sports facilities - by 2.3 times; consumer services facilities - by 86.7%; retail facilities - by 12.8%; catering facilities - by 36.4%. The number of collective accommodation facilities (hotels) in rural areas decreased by 22.9%. Calculation of partial pair correlation coefficients shows that statistically reliable significant relationship between the number of social infrastructure facilities and the number of residents of rural areas in the Leningrad Region was not revealed. Therefore, consideration of the availability of social infrastructure facilities as a key factor in the development of rural areas is justified.
