Abstract: Rural areas play a special role in the economic development of our country today. Sustainable development of rural areas cannot be ensured solely by the growth of the agricultural sector. In Russian regions, the practice of participatory budgeting is currently used as a tool for solving local problems of rural areas in the context of a local budget deficit. The article presents the results of a study on the participation of municipal districts in the implementation of the participatory budgeting mechanism of the Chuvash Republic for 2020-2024. The number, directions of implementation of initiative projects, as well as the amount of funds raised for their implementation were analyzed.
