Abstract: The study's results revealed a number of issues: despite a significant and growing cattle population, beef production remains consistently low. The Republic of Buryatia's potential is constrained by the cumulative impact of four interrelated factors: extreme climatic conditions resulting in a short grazing season and high feed procurement costs; extreme logistical remoteness from key markets; and technological backwardness, manifested in the predominance of low-yielding breeds and the lack of modern fattening technologies. A comparative analysis with regions of the Siberian Federal District shows that it is the combination and high degree of these factors, particularly logistical ones, that explains its lag behind neighbouring regions with similar natural and climatic conditions. Further development of the industry requires a qualitative transformation, including intensified production, the introduction of modern feeding and housing technologies, targeted breeding efforts, and the development of local processing. Two forecast scenarios are proposed, conservative and intensive - based on the hypothesis of structural transformation of the industry through an increase in the share of meat breeds and increased productivity.
