Abstract: As the global population continues to grow, so does the need to increase food production. Traditional agricultural methods are no longer sufficient to meet this demand, making innovation essential. These innovations lay the groundwork for a new stage of technological advancement and are aimed at increasing agricultural output. This article explores key directions for the innovative development of the agricultural sector in the context of the shift to Agriculture 4.0. It outlines the main drivers behind vertical innovation and highlights both biological and digital technologies introduced in agricultural production. The study focuses on the Udmurt Republic and assesses how the introduction of these innovations has influenced regional agricultural development. Findings show that genomic selection of cattle has led to higher milk yields and an overall increase in milk production. Udmurtia ranks among the leading Russian regions for implementing technologies of precision agriculture. However, the republic has not yet been allowed to use drones in farming. The outcomes of this study open new avenues for further research in this area.
