Abstract: The relevance of the study of the competitive advantages of rural areas is associated with the priority attention of the state to the development of rural areas, the growth of variability in the external environment and needs, changes in the relative strength of the impact of factors of the external and internal environment on the functioning of economic entities, business structure in rural areas. The article shows the competitive advantages of rural areas of the Republic of Tatarstan in land use and population density. The study used ranking methods, obtained trend dependencies of gross agricultural output on the quality of land resources. Generalization of the theoretical approaches of domestic and foreign authors to the definition of the category of "competitive advantages" made it possible to give the author's definition of this category.
