Abstract: As a result of the hierarchical clustering of the Republic of Buryatia rural areas, 4 groups of districts were classified with the allocation of leaders and outsiders. The first moderate agricultural potential clusterconsists of districts with an average volume of agricultural output of 29.3 million rubles per 1000 inhabitants of the district. The second cluster consists of areas with an average volume of agricultural output per 1000 inhabitants of the district of only 13.66 million rubles, characterized by unfavorable agro-climatic conditions, poorly developed infrastructure and a low number of able-bodied population. The third cluster united the leaders of agricultural development districtswith an average volume of agricultural production of 46.83 million rubles per 1000 inhabitants of the district. The fourth cluster includes areas with the largest population and a moderate level of agricultural development. The average volume of agricultural products produced is 31.22 million rubles per 1000 inhabitantsof the district. To calculate the generalizing indicator of agricultural development, we select the main indicators in the field of crop and animal husbandry. As a result of calculations, a significant heterogeneity of the regions of the republic was determined. Mukhorshibirskyregion has the best result (1,032), the north Muyskyregion has the worst result (-1.081). Based on the data obtained, the regionswere grouped according to the level of agricultural potential. The intersection of the results of cluster analysis and calculation of the generalizing indicator is revealed. The cluster with low agricultural potential completely repeats the group of outsiders of agricultural development. Moderate cluster areas have an average level of agricultural potential. The regions of the moderate cluster demonstrate a rather low level of agricultural potential. A panel data random effect model was used to assess the relationship between the main indicators of agricultural production and the volume of agricultural products in monetary terms. As a result, it was revealed that the yield of cereals and potatoes has the greatest impact. It is concluded that the field of crop production is of the greatest importance for the development of Republic of Buryatiarural areas.
