Abstract: The purpose of the study was to substantiate strategic directions for the development of large integrated agro-industrial formations, taking into account the transformation of development institutions. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the analysis of the extensive theoretical basis and scientific works of academic economists devoted to the justification of strategies for the development of large integrated formations in the agro-industrial complex, the study of development institutions and their transformation in the face of new global challenges and threats, the justification of strategic prospects for the development of large formations in the Russian agro-industrial complex. According to the author, structural changes in the Russian agro-industrial complex have led to the transformation of development institutions that influence the development of large integrated agro-industrial formations and, as a result, a change in the strategic directions of development of these organizations in the face of new global challenges. The increasing share of large integration entities in the structure of gross output of the Russian agro-industrial complex contributes to the allocation of these organizations to the category of system-forming ones that ensure food security and independence of Russia. Under the current conditions, the strategic goal of the development of large integrated agro-industrial formations should be to ensure sustainable export-oriented development, production of high-quality products and bringing them to the end consumer. The development of integration processes is an objective need to respond to new global challenges, emerging risks and threats to the Russian agro-industrial complex. Since it is large integrated agro-industrial formations that in practice show a high level of sustainable development and stable results of production activities, contribute to the social stability of society. The article presents possible scenarios and trends in the development of large integrated agro-industrial entities in the agro-industrial complex of Russia, in accordance with a private medium-term forecast made on the basis of a trend forecasting model.
