Abstract: The problems of using the results of research work are outlined on the example of educational institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. The mechanisms for improving the methods of forming orders for research and applied scientific developments are proposed. The study of the process of scientific support of the agro-industrial complex made it possible to conclude on the unsatisfactory practical use of the results of research and development carried out by educational institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. It is advisable to determine the need of agricultural producers for new developments that can serve as a guideline for science and the basis for drawing up a state order for research work.
