Abstract: The effectiveness of the management of national agriculture largely depends on the level of the existing scientific base in the country, which is the basis for making state decisions to support agricultural production, especially decisions related to the adoption of long-term development programs of a strategic nature. Methods and tools of economic research of agri-food markets depend on the goals and objectives of the analysis. The article examines the practice of involving scientific institutions for the development of management decisions, which has developed in countries with highly developed agriculture, which is compared with the Russian experience of including scientific institutions studying the economics of agriculture in the management bodies of agriculture and food production. The features of the existing structure of subordinate scientific institutions and analytical centers under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation are considered. The article also deals with issues related to how the information needs of large businesses are met, including in obtaining the results of scientific research and current analytical data, and also suggests considering the possibilities of more effective interaction between the Russian agricultural economic science and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
