Abstract: The article proves that one of the key conditions for expanding the export opportunities of the food and processing industries is to increase their competitiveness both in the domestic and foreign markets. Arguments are given in favour of choosing the theory of competitiveness of M. Porter as the main approach to the study of the competitiveness of the food and processing industry, since it allows you to identify and systematize the factors that affect the level of competitiveness of the analyzed object. The dynamics of the processes of export and import of food products for the period from 2010 to 2019 is estimated. As a specific tool in the process of distributing state aid to regional processing industries, an algorithm is proposed to identify the limits of the ratio of indicators of domestic production, export and import of food, taking into account the value of the general integral indicator developed by the author, which is a combined characteristic of the specific features of the state of the local food and processing industry. The measures of appropriate state support to the food industry sectors within the formed groups of regions are summarized.
