Abstract: The article gives an analysis of the State program for the integrated development of rural territories, and its positive aspects are noted. Wishes are formulated which should be taken into account in case of clarification of this program or preparation of other similar documents. It is concluded that the main direction of improving the rural development policy in Russia should be the development of self-development mechanisms for rural areas, for which it is necessary to significantly improve the quality of public administration.
