Abstract: Agricultural cooperatives play an important role in involving small farms in the value chains of agricultural products. An analysis of value chains allows determine the direction of economic interventions in those links that have the greatest potential for development (for example, those involved in the production, processing, storage or marketing of products). Through empirical research methods, the article analyzes and evaluates the formation of value added in the dairy products value chains based on data from the FAO, Rosstat, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and the National Union of Milk Producers. The trends in the price indices for dairy products and the cost of production of raw milk were identified; the structure of value chains of the main types of dairy products is determined; disclosed the role of cooperation in value chains; on the example of the dairy market, an assessment is made of the current state of agricultural cooperation. It is proposed to direct economic interventions to the formation of cooperative relations, including the creation of vertically integrated cooperatives in the dairy market.
