Abstract: The problems of the country's agri-food system development and its contribution to the economics of the regions will never lose their relevance. Creating an effective value-added agri-food system is key to providing food to the population. This study attempts to assess the contribution to the economy of the regions of the Ural Federal District of the potential of agro-food systems, and proposes new scientific approaches to the analysis of the situation in agriculture by methods of national accounting, introduced into the practice of Russian reality. According to the results of the assessment of the agro-food system for 2017, the Kurgan region took the first place among the regions of the Ural Federal District. Government measures are needed to accelerate the implementation of strategic planning and capacity management of the agro-food system of the regions.
