Abstract: Organic production is fast-growing. A research objective is to consider features and trends of development of organic production in Russia. It is shown that organic agriculture is inherent in small-scale production, is socially responsible and knowledge-intensive. The carried-out analysis of income of the population confirms the niche nature of organic production, having demand generally from the highly profitable population. Operational performance of organic agriculture is lower, than in traditional that conflicts to objectives of increase in production of agricultural products, import substitution and export orientation of agricultural production.
