Abstract: Austria is the leading country in the field of organic market development. Certified organic share of total agricultural land accounts for 21‰, whereas organic share in food retail market reached 8,3‰. Brief history of organic agriculture in context of Austrian agricultural policy is observed. Current incentives for the development of organic market associated with global climate change including emissions of greenhouse gases are considered. Summarized ranking reflecting organic market development in Austria and some countries is cited. Modern state of organic agriculture in Austria including organic crops and animal husbandry is analyzed. Data on organic processing industry in Austria is presented. The significant attention is paid to internal and foreign organic trade. Domestic organic trade focuses upon organic retail sales including consumer motivations, organic prices and structure of organic food consumption by product groups and sale channels. The final part of the article concerns state policy in the Austrian organic market totaling institutional and legislative aspects, financial support of producers and intellectual and information guaranteeing. The importance of the Austrian organic experience for developing of organic market in Russia is substantiated.
