Abstract: Changes in the economic situation in Russia, associated with the introduction of sanctions have caused the need to analyze the production of own agricultural production in conditions of import substitution. The article describes the main trends in the development of beef cattle breeding in the Stavropol region. Revealed that the leading beef producers are farming population. In agricultural organizations of region high unprofitability ratio of beef cattle is associated with lower levels of productivity, as well as the imperfection of pricing policies in the market of meat and meat products in Russia. Also identified features of the zonal distribution of the cattle population and beef production, determined the efficiency level of beef cattle breeding in various climatic zones of the region. It is concluded that the region has sufficient resources for the development of beef cattle breeding in it, and the most promising areas for this industry include areas of eastern and north-eastern areas of the province. The studies identified strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the industry.
